History
In 1973 Russian researchers start active works on creation of blood substitute with oxygen transport function. As one of direction, creation of blood substitute based on hemoglobin was chosen. In St. Petersburg in 1998 common efforts of two Institutes, Russian Research Institute of Hematology and transfusiology and Institute of highly molecular compounds of RAS, after 25-years research works lead to method of production and preparation Gelenpol was created, blood substitute with oxygen transport function based on polymeric modified human hemoglobin. The ides of industrial production technology development in research institute was not successful. Small-scale production of Gelenpol was organized in city blood transfusion station.
Researchers of Medbiopharm Company performed experimental and development works, as a result they could improve the technology to transfer it from laboratory Gelenpol production to industrial one.
Now researchers of Medbiopharm company perfect new technology for blood substitute production of bovine hemoglobin, this will partially balance the limited nature of donor blood ad its components for blood substitute production.
Institutions, supported blood substitute Gelenpol production organization:
• Interdepartmental commission of RF Security Council of public health protection.
• RF Health Ministry
• Russian Academy of medical sciences
• Medical radiological research center of RAMS
• Institute of transfusiology and hematology
• Economic development Ministry.
Production technology was patented.
Now, the Company Gelenpol was established in Obninsk (Director – Vladimir Sarychev), which will organize industrial production of Gelenpol.
