History.

Fist preparations for the therapy and prophylaxis of iron-deficient anaemia are dated 1832, when French doctor Pier Blo proposed to use iron sulphate for anaemia treatment the preparation later got his name. Later other preparations occurred, mainly iron salts: lactates, sulphates, chlorides, succinates and others, pure or in complex with substances improving their absorption and/or alleviating their side effects of simple salts, also with vitamins. As iron salts leads to side effects in most cases, during last years other preparations which are less toxic without side effects were developed, such as polymaltose complex of iron hydroxide, iron protein succinilate and others.

But in spite of plenty of medicinal iron preparation, unsurpassed in their efficacy and safety are preparation created on the basis of natural haemoglobin compounds. There are several reasons for high efficacy and safety of such preparations. Unlike of iron salts which are absorbed as ions connected with almost all adverse salt effects, iron absorption from haemoglobin is from protoporphyrin complex, iron release from it happens only in enterocytes. Iron absorption from haemoglobin (heme iron) does not depend on consumed food, thus it is included in metabolism more effective than all others preparations. Heme iron does not lead to organism iron oversatuation, which is dangerous, because its absorption is regulated more rigidly than other iron forms. Finally, haemoglobin is possible to restore haematopoiesis when it is suppressed.
